Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon Works (hereafter as SVW), the only natural-gas based chemical enterprise under SINOPEC, is located in the National Economic and Technology Development Zone in Changshou District, Chongqing Municipality, and occupies a total area of 337 hectares. SVW had an employment of up to 14000 staffs at its founding stage, with ground-breaking achieved in 1974, commissioning in 1979, completion and production in 1983. After near 40 years of construction and development, SVW has become the largest domestic chemicals and fibre production complex, with natural gas as main feedstock. In July, 2011, with the completion and production of the 300 kta VAM Project, the production capacity of SVW is increased to: 850 kta methanol, 500 kta VAM, 160 kta PVA, and 60 kta vinyl acetate－ethylene copolymerization emulsion (VAE), 20 kta vinylon fibre, 200 kta ammonia, 350 kta (by JV) acetic acid, and 80 kta (by JV) acetic ester, among which the production capacity of both VAM and PVA is ranked the second highest worldwide and highest domestically, respectively. SVW has established a number of joint ventures, such as: YAROCO by SVW and BP, which is built in three phases with units of 350 kta acetic acid and 80 kta acetic ester, has seen significant return from production; Xinjiang Weimei Chemical Co.,Ltd, an incorporation of SVW with Xinjiang Markor Group, has achieved successful commissioning of Acetylene Island Project on April 5th, 2008, and now Phase II Project is under construction; the Linde Chuanwei Gas Co., Ltd of SVW with Linde Group has already supplied gas products to the local market after being put into operation; and the Bijie Zhongchengg Energy Resource Co., Ltd of SVW with Guizhou Zhongcheng Mining Group is under construction, and will produce coal up to 25 million tons each year to ensure the reliable resource for the proposed coal chemical project in Guizhou Province.
